    Brief History

Various Greek advisors from the Southeastern Region felt there was an educational void for culturally based Greek organization existing within our region and decided to create a relevant Summit to fill the void and to create awareness regarding prevalent realities existing within culturally based Greek organizations nationwide.

Initially Greek Advisors from the University of Georgia, University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama begin working on the foundations for a Summit that would eventually be named the Southeastern Greek Leadership Summit. The following schools expressed their support of the Summit since the conception of the idea: University of Georgia, University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, Louisiana State University, University of Alabama, Auburn University and the University of South Carolina. Members of the conference planning committee for the Southeastern Panhellenic Conference which has been in existence since February 25, 1955, offered to assist with the logistical aspect of the Southeastern Greek Leadership Summit, which is how the SEPC/SEGLS partnership was formed.

Members of the SEPC Planning committee gave valuable advice regarding various aspects of hosting a conference/summit and SEPC cordially invited SEGLS to share their conference site in Atlanta Georgia, which provided a venue for the inaugural SEGLS.

    Mission

The mission of the Southeastern Greek Leadership Summit shall be to empower Greek students to excel in all facets of the Greek experience. The Southeastern Greek Leadership Summit desires to instill within our Greek Students that they can be agents of change, inclusive leaders and trailblazers on their respective college campus, within the Greek community and in their local community.

    Motto

We are held to a higher standard therefore, our actions will reflect our innate desire to continue building upon our solid founding principles. We are committed to excellence and achieving success.”

    Purpose

The purpose of the Southeastern Greek Leadership Summit shall be threefold: to create a supportive environment that is conducive to open and honest dialogue regarding the current state of our culturally based Greek Organizations; to provide an opportunity for students to be educated and enlightened through a holistic approach to analyzing our respective organizations and the Greek Community in its entirety; and to expose our students to other culturally based Greek organizations hence fostering a sense of unanimity among all culturally based Greek Organizations.
